Don't Settle For Less
If you think being calm and in control is IMPOSSIBLE, think again!
most women are only a few tweaks away from stopping the wild ride of hormone fluctuations and I will show you, step-by-step, how to reclaim your energy, confidence and feel like yourself again.
If you're anything like most of the women I work with…
the uncertainty of ever feeling like yourself again can seem impossible once you've tried everything, even Hormone Replacement Therapy.
You're at the stage of your life where you're starting to see the results of your hard work, but now you're not feeling quite like you want to.
You have been a Rock Star in so many areas of your life, spent your life putting everything into place, but now you're at the mercy of your hormones – which are driving you crazy!
You're a high-performer with great vision and yet, it's hard to focus, hard to maintain composure and not get emotional over the smallest thing.
You have been the Go-To person, the person others can rely on.
Now, stress and your “go-go-go” drive are catching up with you. You're feeling run-down, OLD, fat and not very motivated to get out and about, spend time with friends or add check marks to your “bucket list.”
Your doctor said you were reaching that stage of your life. HRT should help. But instead of feeling like your old self, it's worse.
There's no such thing a body temperature regulation, your libido is non-existent, you feel uncomfortable with everything bothering you from aches and pains, dry itching eyes and even your skin crawls. Sleep doesn't come easy even though you feel like you're going to pass out every afternoon from exhaustion.
I'm not just talking about the kind of exhaustion that's taken care of by a couple of days off, a few nights sleep or even a holiday somewhere sunning with cocktails by the pool. I'm referring to the kind of DEEP exhaustion that comes from being “on” all the time, taking on more and more, feeling like if you don't do it – no one will!
The worst are the mood swings. One moment you feel like breaking things, the next you're hiding in the bathroom trying to dry your eyes faster than the tears fall.
But it doesn't have to be this way!
That's Where I Come In.
I'm Justine Cécile and as a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner, I address root causes and clients' health from a whole person point of view.
I have seen 100's of people who've suffered from hormonal imbalances who are now full of energy, sleep soundly, are emotionally steady throughout the day, are engaged and flirty again, and they don't worry about the conventional norms of aging.
You didn't put yourself second to your work, your children, slaved at the books, and climbed the corporate ladder to wind up feeling like you have nothing left in the tank for yourself!
Let's put you on the path for finding peace in your body (and mind), so you can feel like yourself again (actually, let's aim for feeling even better).
And the first thing you need to do is understand what you're dealing with.
Here Are Four Strategies That Don't Work – Yet People Always Try Them Anyway:
Switching to Compounded Bioidentical Hormones
If you're anything like most of my clients, you've probably been told to switch to bioidenticals, because they are natural hormones making them more safe and effective.
You may use them and suffer no ill effects, but the truth is they are not better than FDA approved hormones just because they are natural. And you may be missing the point. They alone will not reduce your symptoms if the FDA approved hormones do not.
In fact, they could make you feel worse.
I advocate for going natural in as many areas of you can, and the term “bioidentical” does imply these hormones are natural or the same as the ones found in your body.
This can make you feel safe.
However, all therapeutic hormones, including bioidenticals, have to go through multiple steps of chemical processing. And, not all compounded forms are federally monitored for safety, quality or effectiveness.
Yes, they often work, your product might be more natural, and you may even feel better for while depending on if they switched up the formula. But they are not “better,” and will not improve your symptoms by taking them alone.
If hormone therapy isn’t working, switching the type of hormone therapy is not going to work – at least not long term.
There is a dysfunction, and you do have hormone imbalance, but it’s not necessarily the level of hormones that’s the problem. It’s why your hormones are reacting like they are, why you are not producing enough or why you have too high of one if relation to another that needs to be discovered and corrected.
It's very common for women struggling with mood swings and depression due to hormone imbalances to be prescribed antidepressants to counteract the emotional experience of being on HRT.
For some, antidepressants can ease symptoms and may be necessary.
However, taking antidepressants may give you a sense of false safety and make it possible for you to ignore the root cause. This can lead to your condition worsening down the road.
Additionally, it can be very difficult to convince your doctor you wean off them once you're on them.
I haven't had a client yet who wanted to come off antidepressants have their doctor not push back. Why is this a big deal?
For one, if you're not clinical depressed, often the positive effects of antidepressants begin to wear off.
Now you're throwing chemicals at your body that are disrupting your own chemistry, it's not doing you any good, and you using excessive energy as your liver tries to deal with the added foreign compounds.
Secondly, antidepressants block the absorption of serotonin by your cells.
This can help you feel better, but all of your major organs need serotonin to function – heart, liver, kidneys, and even your lungs. This puts you at a higher risk for strokes and heart attacks.
Trying Supplements Like Black Cohosh
Supplements are wonderful alternatives to prescriptions if taken correctly. But often people decide to take them based on “word of mouth” recommendations and in some instances that can be dangerous.
For instance, Black Cohosh is one that is commonly recommended online because it's thought to reduce hot flashes, but if your liver is not in good health or you take too much or take it too long, it can cause liver damage.
In my practice, I do recommend supplement protocols. But they are very focused and target specific functions and are intended to be short-term only.
Supplements, like most prescriptions, should not be long-term solutions. Overtime they too can create more stress for your body.
And like prescriptions, it is a good idea to have a health professional monitor your use of them.
Supplements can have negative interactions, can have side-effects, or do little to nothing for you – meaning you have expensive pee.
Consuming High-Amounts of Soy Or Flaxseed
You may have seen “natural menopause support” recommendations online that include eating more so-called healthy foods like Soy and Flaxseed.
But if you've tried it, you may have noticed that your symptoms didn't change. Maybe for few days, but that could be due to the placebo effect.
Soy and flaxseed contain phytoestrogens which are like estrogen found in a woman's body.
And many believe that by taking these you can reduce hot flashes, but the risks may outweigh the benefits.
First, only one study has found that soy can reduce hot flashes, but none of the other symptoms. Though studies have shown flaxseed can help with menopause symptoms, even weight gain, you need a high dose. And there's no evidence that you can extract enough estrogen from flaxseed to support diminished estrogen levels. This is particularly true if you have diminished gut health, which is often the case for women suffering with raging hormones.
One of the reasons why I limit soy products is because soy is often used in commercial products and there is evidence that high doses of soy or flaxseed can increase your risk of estrogen-sensitive cancer such as breast, ovarian and uterine cancer.
Three Things You Can Start Doing Right Away To Turn The Tide In Your Favor…
Reset Your Nervous System
You know you should eat better and exercise to feel your best, but what's also often missing is rest. This is more than sleeping well or taking time out to get a manicure. You want to build in routines, habits, that actively resets your nervous system throughout the day.
Your nervous system is either ON – in a state of stress, or it's at REST.
When ON more often than at REST, you can exhaust your adrenals.
Hormone imbalances all have adrenal dysfunction in common. Whether you are producing too much cortisol or too little, it will disrupt your other hormones.
By resetting your nervous system, you allow your adrenals to “take a break” which will have a positive effect on your other hormones.
One of the best strategies you can build into your daily routine is to take breathing breaks.
When you can breathe calmly and deeply at an even pace for 2 minutes or more, you switch from stress mode to recover mode.
You can also give yourself a hand and ear massage. I keep a small tube of nice hand lotion around for this.
Start by kneading the base of the muscle under your thumbs and move out to your fingers.
Then massage your earlobes and work your way up and around the outer shell of your ear. Massaging both of these areas is rooted in traditional Chinese medicine and have been scientifically proven to work .
Breathe calmly and deeply at an even pace for 2 minutes or more.
Massage your earlobes and work your way up and around the outer shell of your ear.
Don't Do INTENSE Exercise
Exercise has been shown to reduce stress hormones; adrenaline and cortisol, while increasing others.
For instance, getting your heart rate up for at least 30 minutes helps boost estrogen.
It also supports healthy levels of dopamine and serotonin, your feel-good chemistry, which can help you feel more energized, motivated and happy. That can reduce anxiety and depression.
Serotonin also supports sleep, appetite, digestion, memory and can even give your libido a boost.
But the problem is: many of the women I work with were exercising, but were doing it wrong. They were over exercising and/or performing stressful exercise. This actually makes you feel worse, not better.
Intense exercise like out running your heart or high-intensity Crossfit trigger the release of adrenaline and cortisol – the two hormones you want to reduce.
When your adrenal glands are fatigued, they require more of the base hormone pregnenolone. Pregnenolone is also a base hormone for estrogen, testosterone and progesterone.
When your adrenal glands are fatigued, they require more of the base hormone pregnenolone. Pregnenolone is also a base hormone for estrogen, testosterone and progesterone. In addition, progesterone is also a base hormone for cortisol, meaning if your body has a need to make more stress hormones – you have less resources for other hormones.
While it is important to push yourself, pushing yourself too much or making exercise stressful can reduce the number of positive benefits.
Instead, try to find exercise that gets you moving, and is also fun. Exercise that relieves stress – not increases it.
Here are 3 ideas you can try this week:
- Walk after lunch or hike during the weekend
- Take a dance class
- Join a Meetup group and go for a bike ride
If getting yourself to the gym after work is stressful and you can't think of something else, sit down with a friend and start brainstorming new ideas.
The more you enjoy yourself, the better the returns and the calmer your hormones will be.
Move & Have Fun
Exercise to relieve stress, not to increase it.
Try Something New
There's more to exercise than going to the gym.
Fix The Root Causes Triggering Your Raging Hormones
Hormones don't work in isolation. They are part of a larger picture and are affected by many things. If basic hormone therapy in not enough to calm your hormonal symptoms – you want to look deeper.
Hormones are messengers, they run instructions between sensors and organs, and if something is off, it’s not usually the hormones themselves.
If you have do not have enough of a hormone, you want to look in why you are not making enough.
If you have too much of a hormone, you need to look into why your body feels like it has to produce more of it or why you are not clearing used and excess hormones.
Additionally, hormones are not meant to be at a certain level at all times. You would never give yourself Insulin and have it sit there at a certain level. You need it when your blood sugar rises, and you don’t when your blood sugar is low.
The Big Picture
Hormones don't work in isolation. You want to look wider and deeper.
Test don't guess. Once you test, you will know what needs to be addressed.
When you were cycling, your estrogen would rise over a certain period of time, and reduce significantly during other periods. If hormones are meant to rise and fall in order to pass on the message, why do we think it’s okay to try and maintain a specific level?
Using state-of-the-art diagnostic lab testing and in-depth clinical assessments, your underlying causes and hidden healing opportunities can be uncovered.
As these are addressed, and your lifestyle structure is tweaked to support you, your symptoms will diminish significantly or completely fade away. It's amazing what this approach can do to improve both health and happiness.
How To Calm Raging Hormones…Once And For All
It's all about addressing root causes…
And Building a Solid Foundation of Support For Your Body's Inner Wisdom
There are 7 primary root causes I come across with my clients who are suffering from raging hormones. Some have one of these, some have several, and I've even worked with a few who had all 7 of them.
Regardless, this is the actual source of your health and happiness concerns. This is why hormone therapy is not enough, and often make your symptoms worse.
The way to find your center and feel your best is to find and eliminate these root causes that are contributing to your hormonal imbalance.
The 7 Most Common Root Causes Are
Diminished gut health; yeast and/or bacterial overgrowth, pathogen infections
Insufficient enzyme production (fat & protein) and nutritional deficiencies
Trauma, excessive stress (internal & external) and Adrenal Fatigue
High carbohydrate diet – unstable blood sugar
Inadequate sleep, lack of rest and poor energy management
Poor detoxification function and toxicity
Estrogen dominance – overweight, poor hormone regulation, and improper supplementation
Finding out the root cause(s)…
can mean the difference between success or being stuck with out of control mood swings, inferno hot flashes, irritability, no sex drive and fatigue that saps your life.
There are proven assessments and tests that can determine if you have any of these root causes. It's not a random guessing game. Additionally, you need to be able to implement your specific strategy.

What Clients Are Saying About Me
Who Needs A Health Coach?
“After the first couple of sessions with Justine Cécile, I admitted, “I do.” Having eaten healthy foods most of my life, the remaining puzzle was – “Why do I still have so much indigestion?”
Justine looks at nutrition from many angles: what we eat, how it's grown, and what we're doing and feeling when we eat. At first keeping notes on all that sounded like a lot of work. Yet this very-knowledgeable woman's manner is motivating because she's organized, informative, attentive, and patient. She imparts new thinking about what's good for getting and staying as healthy as possible, no matter at what age. I would have given up facing some food issues were it not for her.
Justine spotlighted how I eat to keep me from being smug about and/or distracted by my favorite food choices. When I use her recommendations, I see results. When I cut corners, she is non-judgmental but steers me back on track. Justine does this work because she loves it and wants to see others living healthy lives. Give her at least three sessions to start with; I bet you'll be glad you expanded your thinking about eating.”
Susan Drake, Soquel, CA
I Have My Life Back
“With Justine's help and counseling, I am sleeping and breathing much better, have much more energy and feel I “have my life back.”
Justine has given me an overall strategy that works for me. I think more clearly now and eat less. I work and play with better balance and have learned not to overdo either to the detriment of the other. My self-confidence and ability to relate to people are much, much better. My digestion is improved, and I feel less anxiety.
I recommend Justine Cecile Lomax's services, without reservation, to anyone who wants to be happier and healthier, or who wants to accomplish more with more joy in their life.”
